Setting up mailbox in the macOS Mail app

Here is how to set up your mailbox email account in the Mail app on macOS:

1. Add new account

  1. Open the Mail app and click the menu item Mail.
  2. In the menu, click Add Account.
  3. In the dialogue, select Other Mail Account.
  4. Click Next.

2. Enter access data for your mailbox account

Enter the following information in the dialogue:

  • Name: Your display name
  • Mail Address: Your main address at mailbox (not an alias)
  • Password: Your password
Note

If you have enabled two-factor authentication (2FA), enter your email app password instead of your account password.

Then click Sign in.

3. Set up the incoming mail server

Select the desired protocol type for incoming emails:

  • IMAP (recommended): Emails remain on the server and are synchronised across multiple devices
    • Server: imap.mailbox.org
  • POP3: Emails are stored locally and deleted from the server
    • Server: pop3.mailbox.org
Note

When using POP3, changes made via your email app (such as deleting or moving emails) are not synchronised with the mail server or other devices.

Enter your main address as the username and the corresponding password.

Do not use an alias as your username, and if 2FA is enabled, enter your email app password.

4. Set up the outgoing mail server

Enter the following value as the server for outgoing emails: smtp.mailbox.org

Enter your main address as the username and the corresponding password.

Do not use an alias as your username, and if 2FA is enabled, enter your email app password.

5. Complete setup

Click Sign in and then Done.

Your email account is now set up in Apple Mail.
