Answers for private customers

The Knowledge Base for private customers is already largely up to date. A few individual articles are currently being revised and will be updated shortly. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to providing you with the latest information on using mailbox.

Please note: The Knowledge Base has changed slightly. Categories have been adjusted and any URLs stored in the old Knowledge Base are no longer valid.

Integrated email accounts not in the local client

Note: The functions described in this article are available in all plans except the Light plan.

Many users have integrated their mail accounts from other providers into the mailbox web client. Some now expect that these external mail accounts will also appear on other devices or in local mail clients where a mailbox account is set up. However, this is a misunderstanding.

Let us explain why:

Think of the web client as a local mail client, for example Thunderbird or Outlook. In this client, the mailbox address is configured by default – but you can also add additional mail addresses. If you now integrate an external mail address, this client retrieves the mails of that address for you and displays them. However, the mails still remain with the original, external mail provider.
This is exactly how it works with mailbox: The web client only displays the mails of your integrated external mail addresses.

Now let’s assume you have configured your smartphone for your mail address at mailbox. When you retrieve mails with this smartphone, naturally only the mails from mailbox are retrieved – but not the mails from external addresses that you have only integrated for display in the web client.

If you want to manage your external mail addresses entirely with mailbox, you must set up forwarding with your respective external mail providers so that these mails are sent directly to your mailbox address. How to set up such forwarding can be obtained from the respective mail provider. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a general guide here, as all mail providers have different user interfaces and must be configured in different ways.
