FAQ about price plan changes
Effective as of July 2026
The requirements for secure digital communication are constantly increasing. Despite a significant rise in operation costs, we have kept our prices stable for over five years. With this price change, we are continuing to invest in the secure operation of our infrastructure in Germany as well as in the ongoing development of mailbox.
Our goal remains the same: to continue offering you a secure, reliable, and high-performance solution for your daily communication.
What's changing?
The Standard and Premium plans offer increased storage space for Mail and Drive. The storage space in the Light plan remains unchanged.
Standard plan
| Storage space | Old | New |
|---|---|---|
| 10 GB | 20 GB | |
| Drive | 5 GB | 10 GB |
Premium plan
| Storage space | Old | New |
|---|---|---|
| 25 GB | 50 GB | |
| Drive | 50 GB | 100 GB |
Which prices will change?
The prices for the Standard and Premium plans are changing. You can find an overview on our website: Price plans. The price for the Light plan remains unchanged.
As customer, you can lock in the old prices if you proactively renew your contract by 31 August 2026. For more details, see: How does the discount offer work?
When do the new prices take effect?
The new prices take effect on 15 July 2026 for new contracts.
If you are already a customer and extend your contract before 31 August 2026, then you can continue to use mailbox under the old prices.
Why are prices changing?
These price changes are necessary because we are facing higher operational costs. We have tried to offset these increased operational costs for as long as possible to keep our prices stable. However, it is now unavoidable that we pass on a fraction of these costs to you by increasing our prices.
Does the price change affect me?
Affected customers will be notified by email.
You can view your current plan in mailbox Suite by clicking the gear icon and following this path: All settings > Contract and payment > Contract
Is there a discount for long-time customers?
As a thank-you for your loyalty, you can lock in the old prices if you proactively renew your contract by 31 August 2026.
How does the discount offer work?
If you extend your contract term by 31 August 2026, you can continue to use mailbox for the old price just like before.
This also applies to customers who have set up direct debit payments. You can pay the required amount using a different payment method (e.g. bank transfer) to extend the contract term on the existing prices (see below). Once the paid term has expired, the new prices will apply.
How do I extend my contract term?
You can extend the term of your contract by making a payment for any period of time. To do this, log in to your mailbox account, click the gear icon and navigate to All settings > Contract and payment > Contract.
If you would like to pay for your account in advance for a longer period, you can simply make several annual payments in succession or pay the relevant amount all at once.
For more details on payments, see the article Paying for your mailbox account.
How long is the offer valid?
The offer is valid until 31 August 2026.
What happens after the contract term expires?
After the contract term expires, the prices for your plan that are in effect at that time will automatically apply.
Do I have to do something if I do not want to take the offer?
No. If you do nothing, your contract will automatically be renewed at the new price as soon as your next payment is due.
Can I change my plan?
Yes, you can change your plan at any time. For information on changing your plan, see the article Changing your plan in our Knowledge Base.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can find information about cancellation options in your account settings and in the cancellation form.
Where can I see my current contract term?
You can find your current contract term in your mailbox account under: Gear icon > All settings > Contract and payment > Contract
Can I continue using direct debit?
Existing direct debit authorisations will remain in effect. The next payment will be taken at the end of the period for which payment has already been made.
Please note that the change in price requires your consent. Once you have agreed to the change, the extra storage space for Mail and Drive will also be available to you. Please agree to the plan changes by following this path in the mailbox Suite: Gear icon > All settings > Contract and payment. A notice regarding the new plan conditions will appear there.
Please note that clicking the Order with payment obligation button in this notice will not result in a contract renewal. You can renew your subscription at the current price by paying via a different payment method, e.g. bank transfer, under Payment (see How do I extend my contract term?).
Why does my mailbox account not show the storage upgrade yet?
The transition to the new storage sizes for Mail and Drive is happening gradually. It may therefore take a few days for the changes to be visible in your account.
If you have set up a direct debit authorisation, you first need to agree to the plan changes before you can benefit from the increased storage space. To do this, under the path Gear icon > All settings > Contract and payment, click on the Order with payment obligation button. This will not affect the term of your contract and no payment will be made either.
If you have purchased additional storage and no longer need it after the storage space increase, you can reduce it by following this path: Gear icon > All settings > Contract and payment > Contract > Get additional storage
I have a test account. What does that mean for me?
If you registered with mailbox before 15 July 2026, you can still take advantage of the old prices by making a payment by 31 August 2026.
For customers who registered on or after 15 July 2026, the new prices apply.
I have a family account—what do I need to know?
All members of the family account will receive an email notification regarding the new prices, provided they have subscribed to the Standard or Premium plans. For joint billing, the total amount will increase according to each member's contract term.
My question was not answered—who can I contact?
