Is there going to be transport encryption for my e-mail
Sending my Mail
mailbox informs you about possible transport encryption before you send a message
- SSL encrypted or not? Entering a recipient address gives you a clear answer.
- Simple icons indicate the supported transport encryption of the receiving mail provider.
- This way, you gain more security and transparency for your private or business communication.
As a user of mailbox, you can already see when entering a recipient address whether the message will later be transmitted securely over an encrypted connection. mailbox classifies the recipient’s mail providers into four levels:
Overview of transport encryption symbols
Level | Description | Symbol |
---|---|---|
1 | Highest SSL security standard, additionally protected with DANE and DNSSEC. | Fully green thumbs-up icon |
2 | Normal SSL encryption is supported. | Green outlined thumbs-up icon |
3 | No communication has yet taken place with the target system. | Grey question mark |
4 | The target system does not support any transport encryption. | Red prohibition sign |
Secure transport encryption worldwide
SSL encryption between providers is always optional. This allows malicious third parties to manipulate the SMTP connection setup when sending a mail and thus enforce unencrypted transmission.
Not so with mailbox: If the previously determined security level of a mail server suddenly drops, sending to this destination is automatically stopped. Our administrators then review the case to decide whether to lift the security lock.
In this way, mailbox ensures consistent and reliable security for sending your mails. Unlike “E-Mail made in Germany”, which only guarantees secure transmission between a few participating providers, this service is not limited to specific partners. This allows us to guarantee secure transmission to all providers worldwide with whom an encrypted connection has already been successfully established in the past.
