Access security for mailbox - 2FA, app passwords, and email passwords
This article provides an overview of the different functions for securing your access to mailbox – including Two-Factor Authentication and Application Passwords. Each function is described in detail in a separate article.
Once you have activated Two-Factor Authentication, external programs such as Outlook, Thunderbird, DAVx⁵, or mobile calendar and address book apps can no longer access mailbox with your normal password. For this purpose, you must set up a so-called Application Password.
In this article, you will find an overview of the different options for securing your access to mailbox. We aim to clearly distinguish between the individual topics and therefore provide links to detailed guides.

Note for screen reader users
To edit a token (activate, deactivate, delete), it must first be selected. However, this cannot be done using the keyboard alone. Therefore, for screen reader users, it is necessary to disable CSS.
In Firefox, this can be done as follows:
Press the Alt key to open the option View | Page Style | No Style.
Now find the token that applies to you and select it with Enter. You can then re-enable CSS and the token will be displayed correctly.
