With CalDAV and CardDAV, you can synchronize your calendars and contacts across different devices and applications. These protocols enable an open, standardized connection to your calendar and address book system – regardless of the platform or software you use.
What are CalDAV and CardDAV?
CalDAV and CardDAV are open protocols. These standards allow allow secure and platform-independent synchronization of your calendars and contacts.
While CalDAV is specifically designed for managing calendar data such as appointments, events, and tasks, CardDAV is used for exchanging and maintaining contacts in address books.
Both protocols are based on WebDAV, an extension of the HTTP protocol, and transfer all data securely via HTTPS. This ensures that your information remains protected during access and synchronization. Thanks to their open standardization, CalDAV and CardDAV are compatible with a wide range of modern applications and operating systems – from mobile devices to professional desktop clients.

Additional information
If you use multiple calendars or address books in your mailbox account, make sure to select the correct resource URL for each one. Every calendar or address book has its own address, for example https://dav.mailbox.org/caldav/<calendarname>/. In most applications, this URL is detected automatically, but it can also be entered manually if necessary. An incorrect URL may result in synchronization issues or missing data.
If synchronization does not work as expected, please first check the SSL connection and the server address. The connection must always be established securely via https://dav.mailbox.org to ensure your data remains protected. Make sure no certificate warnings appear and that you have a stable internet connection. In some cases, it may help to open the server address in a browser to verify accessibility.
Please note that setup steps may vary slightly depending on the application, operating system, or version used. The procedures described in this article are intended as a general guide. If the interface in your app differs, follow the equivalent menu paths. Many applications automatically detect the correct settings once you enter your mailbox login credentials.
