Once you have enabled two-factor authentication, external programmes such as Outlook, Thunderbird, DAVx⁵ or mobile calendar and address book apps will no longer be able to access mailbox using your normal password. To do this, you must set up what is known as an application password. Without two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled, the use of application passwords is optional.
