ID4me
What is ID4me?
ID4me is a domain-based, decentralized, and open Single Sign-On solution where users retain full control over their data. Founding members of ID4me AISBL are DENIC, 1&1 IONOS, and Open-Xchange. Unlike a login with a Google or Facebook account, there is no central ID provider. Instead, users can choose an ID identifier, for example mailbox.
Does anything change for me?
No, nothing changes for you at mailbox. You do not need to make or change any settings.
How can I use ID4me?
Simply log in at a supported portal via the ID4me button with your mailbox login credentials.
What data are transmitted?
None. Only the identity verification is delegated to mailbox over secure servers and connections. This means that mailbox only confirms or denies the correctness of the login. No data are exchanged, except for those you explicitly choose to release.
I don’t want to use ID4me?
The decision to use ID4me is entirely yours. Nothing changes with your account.
What does it cost?
ID4me is a standard for ID management that we offer free of charge.
How can I use ID4me with my own domain?
For use with your own domain, a TXT record in the DNS of your domain is required:
_openid.id4me.mailbox.org. 3600 IN TXT v=OID1;iss=id4me.mailbox.org/auth/realms/mbo/;clp=id4me.mailbox.org/auth/realms/mbo/
Can I also use ID4me with OTP?
At the moment this is not possible, but it is planned.
Note
The implementation of ID4me is currently still in beta status. We look forward to your feedback.
