Answers for private customers

The Knowledge Base for private customers is already largely up to date. A few individual articles are currently being revised and will be updated shortly. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to providing you with the latest information on using mailbox.

Please note: The Knowledge Base has changed slightly. Categories have been adjusted and any URLs stored in the old Knowledge Base are no longer valid.

Anonymous new registration

To open a mailbox account, you are required to provide a first and last name. Since we do not verify this information at any point, you may choose any pseudonym. Especially in combination with Tor and the Tor access provided by mailbox (see article "Anonymous access to mailbox with Tor"), you can maintain complete anonymity.

The name in the mailbox web portal is necessary because you may want to collaborate with others on tasks and files or share them with third parties.

Sometimes real names are necessary

If you intend to use your account data further (for example, to submit costs to your client), you should provide your real name from the very beginning. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to change invoices afterwards – our system processes payments fully automatically and immediately generates an initial invoice using the data stored under Settings | mailbox Settings | Personal Data.

Figure 1: In the settings, you can enter personal data – pseudonyms are also possible, allowing you to remain anonymous with us.
