CalDAV in Thunderbird
Thunderbird
To manage your mailbox calendars with Mozilla Thunderbird, you can use the Lightning add-on (included by default from Thunderbird version 38.0 onward).
-
Open the Thunderbird menu and select “File | New | Calendar” to add a calendar from your mailbox Office.
-
In the dialog that appears, choose “On the Network” as the calendar location.
-
In the next step, select “CalDAV” as the format and enter the following address:
https://dav.mailbox.org/caldav/XXX
Note: Replace XXX with the unique combination of letters and numbers corresponding to your calendar.
To find the full address of your calendar or task list (including the individual letter and number combination), follow these steps:
- Open the desired calendar or task list in your mailbox Office.
- Click the three horizontal lines icon next to the calendar name.
- Select “Properties” from the menu that appears.
You will now see the complete calendar address, for example:
https://dav.mailbox.org/caldav/Y2FsFi8hMC4zKQ
This address is required when integrating your mailbox calendar into other applications.
Next, assign a name to the calendar and select a color for visual identification.
Finally, enter your mailbox email address as the username and your password (or an application password, if applicable).
Once these steps are complete, your calendar will be successfully integrated with Thunderbird.
Optional: Managing multiple accounts
If you want to integrate multiple calendars from different accounts in Thunderbird, you can modify the configuration as follows.
Warning: The following changes are made at your own risk. mailbox does not provide support for custom configuration changes.
- Make sure the Lightning add-on is installed and enabled (it is included in current Thunderbird versions).
- Open the Settings in Thunderbird.
- Navigate to Advanced | General | Config Editor.
- Confirm the warning message “I accept the risk!”
- In the search field, type
calendar.network.multirealm. - Double-click the result to change the value from false to true, then confirm the change.
- Restart Thunderbird to apply the modification.
Alternative: TBSync add-on
If you experience issues with the configuration described above, many users report excellent results using the TBSync add-on. TBSync requires an additional extension called Provider for CalDAV & CardDAV, but it offers more synchronization options and, in some cases, a more stable sync process between mailbox and Thunderbird.
Once configured, both CalDAV and CardDAV connections allow you to manage your calendars, contacts, and tasks securely within Thunderbird, synchronized directly with your mailbox account.
