Setup with Mail App for MacOS
Once you have enabled two-factor authentication, external applications such as Outlook, Thunderbird, DAVx⁵, or mobile calendar and contact apps can no longer access mailbox using your regular password.
To do so, you need to create an application password. Without enabled two-factor authentication (2FA), the use of application passwords is optional.
Setting up a mail account on macOS (Apple Mail)
Here is how to set up your mailbox mail account in the Mail app on macOS:
1. Open System Settings
Open System Settings and select Internet Accounts.

2. Add a new account
Click Add Account and then select Other Mail Account....

3. Enter access data
Enter the following information:
- Name: Your display name
- Address: Your main address at mailbox (not an alias)
- Password: Your password

4. Configure the incoming mail server
Select the desired protocol type:
- IMAP (recommended): Mails remain on the server
- Server:
imap.mailbox.org
- Server:
- POP3: Mails are stored locally and deleted from the server
- Server:
pop3.mailbox.org
- Server:
Use your main address as the username and the corresponding password.

5. Set up the outgoing mail server
Enter smtp.mailbox.org as the SMTP server.
Again, use your main address and your password.
