Answers for private customers

The Knowledge Base for private customers is already largely up to date. A few individual articles are currently being revised and will be updated shortly. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to providing you with the latest information on using mailbox.

Please note: The Knowledge Base has changed slightly. Categories have been adjusted and any URLs stored in the old Knowledge Base are no longer valid.

Read encrypted e-mails with Guard

Note: To use the functions described in this article, you must have the mailbox Guard activated.

The use of Guard is necessary in order to read PGP-encrypted mails in the web client. This can be achieved in just a few simple steps (please refer to the relevant FAQ articles!):

  1. Activate Guard. Your own new PGP key will be generated automatically.

  2. Optionally, you can replace the automatically generated key pair with your own locally available PGP key.

To be able to read encrypted mails in the web client, you must also upload your private key. We make every effort to protect it in the best possible way. The key is secured with an additional password known only to you and stored in encrypted form. This ensures that even our administrators have no access to your private key.

To read a PGP-encrypted mail in the web client, select the corresponding mail in your mailbox Office. You will then be prompted for your Guard password (with which your private key is secured).

By entering it, your private key will be temporarily unlocked on the server in order to decrypt the message.

To avoid the repeated but necessary entry of the Guard password, you can choose to have it stored in the browser for a selectable period of time.
