WebDav for Windows

Note: The features discussed in this article are available in all plans except the Light plan.

Important after setup

Once you have enabled two-factor authentication, external applications such as Outlook, Thunderbird, DAVx⁵, or mobile calendar and contact apps can no longer access mailbox using your regular password.
To do so, you need to create an application password. Without enabled two-factor authentication (2FA), the use of application passwords is optional.

WebDAV on Windows

You can integrate the mailbox Drive as a network drive under Windows.

Note

To avoid login issues when mapping the network drive on Windows, create a new application password for the WebDAV client before starting the setup. Use this application password together with your primary username when Windows requests credentials. You can find further information in the article: Application passwords

For access via WebDAV you need the following login data:

WebDAV access data

  • Server: dav.mailbox.org
  • Type: Secure WebDAV (HTTPS)
  • Username: Your main mail address at mailbox
  • Password: Your WebDAV client application password
  • Folder: https://dav.mailbox.org/servlet/webdav.infostore/Userstore/

You will also need the last name and first name that you have entered in the mailbox Settings.

WebDAV URL formatting – Academic titles, special characters and diacritical marks

Academic degrees & titles

If you have stored a title in your personal contact data (e.g. Dr. Maxima Mustermann), you may need to include this in the WebDAV URL for synchronization to work. This is the case, for example, with Joplin.

Example:
A valid WebDAV URL for Dr. Maxima Mustermann looks like this:
https://dav.mailbox.org/servlet/webdav.infostore/Userstore/Dr.%20Maxima%20Mustermann/

Note: %20 replaces the space, which is not allowed in the URL.

Special characters and diacritical marks

If you have special characters (e.g. ä, ü, ö, ß) or diacritical marks (e.g. ł) in your name, please use the following table for conversion:
https://www.utf8-zeichentabelle.de/unicode-utf8-table.pl?number=1024&htmlent=1

Example:
A correct WebDAV URL for Bartłomiej Mustermann looks like this:
https://dav.mailbox.org/servlet/webdav.infostore/Userstore/Bart%C5%82omiej%20Mustermann/

Connect Windows network drive

Open Windows Explorer and right-click on This PC. Select Map network drive from the context menu.

A window will open in which you can choose the drive letter under which the new network drive with the Drive connection will be displayed.

Enter under Folder the address https://dav.mailbox.org/servlet/webdav.infostore/Userstore/.

The comma and space between first name and last name must be entered. First and last name can be taken from the contact data of your account at mailbox (in the account settings).

Variants

Occasionally, and depending on the application, a different syntax for the URL may be necessary, for example if programs have problems with spaces. In such cases, it often helps to try %20 instead of the space.

Below is a list of possible notations:

  • https://dav.mailbox.org/servlet/webdav.infostore/Userstore/First name Last name
  • https://dav.mailbox.org/servlet/webdav.infostore/Userstore/First name, Last name
  • https://dav.mailbox.org/servlet/webdav.infostore/Userstore/Last name,%20First name/

For users of Enpass:
https://dav.mailbox.org/servlet/webdav.infostore/Userstore/Last name, First name/ENPASS

Now check the option Reconnect at logon, and click on Finish.

Windows will then create entries in Windows Explorer under This PC and link the selected network folder here as a network drive. When opened, you will be asked for your mailbox account and your password.

If everything worked, the Windows Explorer will now display the contents of your Drive.

As an example, we will use the following login details:

Usernamejohn@meinhard.uk
Passwordakfs-nxse-cfys-lnfs
WebDAV URLhttps://dav.mailbox.org/servlet/webdav.infostore/Userstore/
