Answers for companies

The Business Knowledge Base is already largely up to date. A few individual articles are currently being revised and adapted. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to providing you with up-to-date information on using mailbox.

Please note: The knowledge base has changed slightly. Categories have been adapted and URLs stored in the old knowledge base may no longer be valid.

Access security for mailbox - 2FA, app passwords, and email passwords

Note: Logging in to mailbox with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is optional. Increase the security of your account with mailbox.

This article provides an overview of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and Application Passwords. Each method is explained in a separate article in detail. We aim to clearly separate the individual topics and therefore link to dedicated guides.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

2FA provides additional protection when logging in to mailbox. In addition to your password, you will need a second factor (e.g., a TOTP code from a 2FA app) to log in to mailbox.

Application Password for External Programs

Specially generated passwords for mail clients, calendar, and contact synchronization via CalDAV, CardDAV & more.

Mail App Password

To protect a mail client with a dedicated password or to allow access when Two-Factor Authentication is enabled, you can create as many Mail App Passwords as needed.

Note for Screen Reader Users

To edit a token (activate, deactivate, delete), it must first be selected. However, this cannot be done using the keyboard. Therefore, screen reader users need to disable CSS.

In Firefox, this works as follows:

Press the Alt key to open the menu and select View | Page Style | No Style.
Now find the token you want and select it with Enter. Afterwards, you can enable CSS again, and the token will be displayed correctly.
