Identifying the source of encryption

Email encrypted – by the sender or via an encrypted mailbox?

If you have activated our automatic encryption using the encrypted mailbox option, you will no longer be able to tell whether an email was encrypted by the encrypted mailbox or already by the sender – provided that you use the same public key for both.

If you would like to trace this, try the following trick:

Generate a second PGP key that you do not distribute, but use exclusively for the encrypted mailbox. This way, you can determine from the key IDs whether an email was encrypted by the sender or by the encrypted mailbox.
