What are the differences between mailbox for business and private customers?
mailbox for business customers
Business customers use the mailbox infrastructure via their own domain and receive a complete online office for all their staff members. This includes features such as address books, calendar, tasks, cloud storage, online document editing and spreadsheet software (this does not apply to accounts in the Light plan). The costs incurred consist of monthly fixed costs (basic fee) and the fees for the individual accounts created – depending on the selected range of functions or plan.
As a business customer, you can conveniently pay by direct debit or invoice (with input VAT deduction). You can also conduct a data processing agreement (DPA) with us. This defines the legal framework for the protection of all customer data that we are required to process in order to provide our products and services.
By using the administration-interface, you can make changes to your business account. Employee accounts can be assigned to different contexts, allowing you to easily group or separate individual clients, departments or operating locations. Within a context, all members can find each other in the global address book, and approvals (e.g. for calendars or data) can be shared in mailbox Office.
Whenever a technical issue arises our dedicated support team will address this with higher priority if you are our business customer. Depending on your chosen business price plan, our support team will also be happy to assist you by telephone.
mailbox for private customers
As private customer, you can register and pay for a mailbox account anonymously if you want. Details on the rates can be found on our rate calculator for private customer rates.
Private customers with a Standard or Premium price plan can configure their existing domain with a mailbox account to send and receive emails. The necessary steps are explained in a separate article in our Knowledge Base. Like business customers, private customers with a Standard or Premium price plan have access to our fully-featured mailbox Office, including calendars, addressbooks, tasks, and cloud storage. All of these components can be shared with other external users, even if they do not have a mailbox account.
There is also a way for private customers to work together more closely by creating a family account. Family accounts are available in the Standard or Premium price plan. It consits of up to 10 individual mailbox accounts to be managed together. This can be very useful for small groups such as families, students in shared apartments, hobby groups, or members of sports clubs. Please make sure you follow the relevant instructions on how to set up a family account.
Private customers can choose from a variety of useful encryption facilities and also enable two-factor authentication for logins, if desired.
Although we are unable to offer support over the phone for private customers, we are always happy to respond to questions and help with any issues through our online customer support portal, or by sending us an email at helpdesk@mailbox.org.
