I don’t have my own domain. Can I register a domain via mailbox?
No, because mailbox is meant to be used anonymously. For a domain registration, however, we would need your address data. Also, mailbox works as a prepaid system. If we were to register domains, the risk would be too high that we might have to delete them at some point, which would cause complications.
I don’t know what "DNS" is. What should I change where and how?
Using your own domain requires a certain level of technical understanding of how domains work and what the Domain Name System (DNS) is. This article in our Knowledge Base will help you further. If you have any further questions, please contact the support team of your provider who manages your domain.
What should I do if I no longer want to run my own domain via mailbox?
You can change this at any time. To do so, enter the details of the new provider in your domain’s MX records and delete the aliases from your mailbox account.
Can I use catch-all addresses with my own domain at mailbox?
Yes, this is possible. Details can be found in the separate article on own domain and catch-all addresses.
Is the number of email addresses from external domains limited?
Yes. The maximum number of these aliases allowed depends on your chosen plan. You can find details in our price list. Here is an overview:
- Premium plan: 250 aliases
- Standard plan: 50 aliases
- Light plan: 3 aliases
Aliases for the user names postmaster@, abuse@, hostmaster@, and webmaster@ are not counted and can be created freely. Please create the previously mentioned aliases before you reach the maximum possible number of aliases.
