Sales tax exemption for Swiss private customers and European business customers
Unlike in the E.U. countries, Swiss private customers are actually required to pay sales tax in Switzerland, meaning that they are not obligated to pay German sales tax. For tax purposes, we would be required to provide detailed documentation, for example, by keeping of a photocopy of the customer’s Swiss ID in our files.
E.U. and Swiss business customers would also be entitled to a sales tax calculation in accordance with the reverse charge procedure.
We ask for your understanding that we are not equipped to handle amounts of just a few euros per month. The process is too labor-intensive to justify 19 cents in savings on sales tax. This is simply beyond our abilities, as it would take several days of work to implement.
In the long-term, we plan to invest the time to automate and, if necessary, map this process. However, currently the cost of this type of implementation would probably exceed the sales tax savings accrued by all of our Swiss customers over the next ten years.
We ask for your understanding that we are currently unable to offer this service for Swiss private customers or European and Swiss business customers.
